The Healing Power of Darcy--Thank you, Darcyholics
As many of
you know, back in March, a sudden illness left me without the ability to
control any voluntary movements. During the weeks that I was hospitalized, my
husband Matt kept in touch with a few Darcyholics who passed on all of your encouraging
messages. I can’t tell you how much all of that meant to us, and to this day,
still does. Knowing fellow Darcyholics were out there thinking of and praying
for me kept me going.
Retraining my
body how to function again has been exhausting, and especially while in the
hospital, I had a lot of down time. There was not much for me to do while
resting, and I was in great danger of slipping into a state of self-pity at
those times.
Deciding to
catch up on all the JAFF I had purchased at Christmas, I then found another
huge roadblock. Instead of being able to focus, my eyes kept drifting – they were
not yet coordinated enough.
Darcyholism
to the rescue! Without Barb’s story “I am a Darcyholic”, I would have never
known that my Kindle could read to me. JAFF and a pair of headphones literally
kept me from going bonkers all those weeks.
So, not only
am I an admitted Darcyholic—dependent on reading about our favorite literary gentleman
and his friends in every form and situation possible—but I have Darcyholics
everywhere to thank for my sanity!
Love and
hugs to you all! Wendi
P.S. The
release of Dreams and Expectations
was delayed by all this, but now it is out! We are giving away copies, so be
sure to sign up!
Blurb: While staying true
to the characters of Jane Austen's much loved tale, this novel takes Elizabeth
Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy on a much different journey than Austen did in
Pride and Prejudice.
Darcy and Elizabeth quickly recognize their feelings for each other and form a friendship, but misunderstandings and a bit of mystery and adventure hinder their path to happiness.

How cool that your talking Kindle helped keep your spirits up at such a tough time. Mr. Darcy just makes everything better! I'm so glad you're doing well. Dreams & Expectations was one of the first JAFF stories I ever read and I'm looking forward to reading the published version!

DeleteWENDI! So happy to see you here. So, you listened your favorite stories when you couldn't read them. What a great idea! Did you manage to listen to the stories on the forums too? Tell me how. I want to follow my favorite WIPs while I am driving or anything else.
ReplyDeleteCongrats for your recovery. Great job!
China, I'm not sure if you can listen to the stories on the forums. I'll give it a try and let you know!

So glad you're feeling better. Even sick, you managed to get a tremendous amount of work done. I'm so impressed. Eyes straight ahead, one foot in front of the other. You'll make it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gayle! You've been a wonderful source of support through it all, as always :)
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you Wendi! You have been an inspiration to us all! I am so glad you found out your kindle could read to you...wonderful! I can sort of relate (please no comparison) because I drive 40 minutes to work each way and sometimes I am so anxious to get here or there I end up speeding and my husband is always afraid I am going to get a ticket of get into a crash (I do have an anxiety disorder). However, recently I discovered another great tool (I don't know how to make my kindle read to me yet) called audible.com and it is an app in my phone as well. Now I go to work almost under the speed limit (LOL) cruising in a sea of tranquility listening to audio books. I arrived at work with a smile on my face ready to start the day. God bless technology, right? Sending all the hope my heart can hold to you and your lovely career as an author. May it be a very long and prolific one!
ReplyDeleteHi, Rita! Thanks for the tip about audible.com. I'm sure you want to hang out in the car and listen longer, too, lol! They keep saying if I sign up, I'll get 2 free books - but I already have so many I'd like to read on my kindle! I will probably sign up one of these days.
ReplyDeleteWendi

ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful! My triplets have the least expensive version and were disappointed that it didn't read out loud, but my "keyboard" Kindle does. Thanks, Jamie!
