Thank you, Barbara, for inviting me to talk about my drawings. When we visited last year and you saw my first three drawings, my plans for a calendar had not yet been conceived. Then when it was, time became a major factor. I didn’t get the calendar out as early as I needed but wanted to do it anyway.  It was my contribution to the 200th Anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice and keepsake commemorative of this special event. My calendar is to be included in the Jane Austen Today exhibition at The Jane Austen Centre in Bath!  I am both humbled and honored to have my work displayed there. My drawings are a tribute to Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice and the 1995 BBC miniseries. (pic calendar front and back)
I have plans to draw more scenes that include Elizabeth and Darcy together, as well as other characters from the miniseries.  Eventually I will branch out to the 2005 P n P movie; then draw scenes from the movies of Jane Austen’s other books.
Besides my calendar, I have small and medium note cards with my drawings and appropriate quotes. I will soon have 6”x6” tiles, mouse pads and mugs available. The mugs will have a drawing on the front. The back will have the title of the drawing and a corresponding quote from the book.  Since I don’t have a sample for the mouse pad yet, if you were to get a mouse pad, which drawing would like to have on it? Let me know in your comments.  (pics of mugs and tiles)
Thanks again, Barbara, for having me today.

  1. I love that you are creating these gifts for the Pride and Prejudice lover. Those tiles and the mug are great additions to the already gorgeous calendar. That is so neat that the Jane Austen Center has put your work on their shelves.

    Thanks for sharing, Janet!

    1. As much pleasure as it gives me to draw the scenes, I felt I needed to do more with them. It pleases me that you love the things that I am making with my drawings. The tiles were a surprise. I had contacted Robert Fleming in Tennessee about the mugs, as I had seen some of the work he had done for my sister and brother-in-law. He made up some tiles for me to see and sent them with the mug samples. He did a fabulous job with them.

I am sure if my calendar is in the exhibit yet but it will be. I only shipped it a little over a week ago. Wish I could see it there!

Thank you for your nice comment!

  2. Your picture of Elizabeth is my favorite. It is actually an improvement on her expression in the film. You've captured something in her eyes.

    1. She was my easiest drawing after 'The Kiss'. She seemed to come together with less work for me. I wanted to give her 'fine eyes' with much feeling so am very moved by your statement! That is a great compliment and I thank you, Robin!

    1. I plan to start back drawing soon. I took a much needed break to play catch up on everything I had neglected for the past 4-5 months. :)

The accepted proposal would be a colorful one wouldn't it? I like all the trees in the background around Elizabeth. Glad you shared your choice.

Thank you for the nice compliment.

    1. Thanks, Jeanna. I hope to have some mouse pads available soon. I will be sending the drawings of several to Robert, the man printing the mugs, tiles and mouse pads, on Monday. I will post when they are available.

  9. They are very lovely... the P&P95 BBC series is excellent and I often watch my DVD of it - in fact I was just watching an hour or two of it yesterday evening.
But not wishing to be controversial or cause another Darcy war... I'd have preferred a different Darcy (with initials MM)!!!

    1. No war here, Jane. We all have our favorite and that is as it should be. How dull, if everyone liked exactly the same thing. I do plan to attempt 'MM' Darcy in the future.

I agree that the series is excellent and follows the book closely, for the most part. I recently watched it over the course of a couple of days. I will be watching the 2005 version again soon. I must start picking some scenes!

Even if we don't 'have' the same Darcy in mind, I'm still glad you commented! :)

      Thank you.

  12. I love your artwork, Janet. I'm lucky enough to own several of your notecards from Austenesque Extravaganza 2013. There are absolutely beautiful and gorgeous to behold.

I prefer Lizzy and Darcy dancing in the Netherfield ball for mousepad design. Have you done any of the dancing scenes before, Barbara?

  13. Oh, I am glad to hear that you have some of my cards and even happier to know that you like them. Thank you for telling me.

I have not done a drawing of Lizzy and Darcy dancing at the Netherfield Ball but I do have plans to do one. I haven't decided on just what part of their dance that I want to draw but will have fun watching that part of the movie over and over until I decide! :) A scene from the dance would make a nice mouse pad, wouldn't it! Thanks for telling me your thoughts.
