Emma Woodhouse of DarcyholicMatch Interviews Author Barbara Tiller Cole

Emma Woodhouse of DarcyholicMatch
Interviews Author Barbara Tiller Cole
A Special Post for Austenesque Extravaganza

Emma:  It is my pleasure to be here in Atlanta and welcome Barbara Tiller Cole to this special feature of DarcyholicMatch.com.  As the star of her upcoming book, Adventures of a Darcyholic, I am thrilled to be able to visit with her today.
BTCole:  Emma, you are not the star of the book.  Will Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are the main characters.
Emma:  Barbara, am I or am I not the group leader of the Fan Fiction Anonymous meeting where your Will and Elizabeth meet for the first time?
BTCole:  Well, yes, but…
Emma:  Am I not the matchmaker that is behind the match and assists in forwarding it?
BTCole:  Well, yes, but…
Emma:  Would they have gotten together if not for me?
BTCole:  Emma, Stop!  You are supposed to be a recovering matchmaker! Now you know that…
Emma:  But don’t you know that I relapsed only to assist YOUR characters?
BTCole:  And when did you happen to launch DarcyholicMatch.com?  Was it DURING your relapse?  Or, are you still IN relapse, back into your matchmaking ways?
Emma:  Well, perhaps I have relapsed but I am so happily matched myself I have no cause to repine.
BTCole:  Where is Richard tonight anyway?
Emma:  Oh, he is consulting the writers of NCIS on their latest season.  The former Captain Richard Fitzwilliam went on to work with NCIS after leading his own SEAL team doing covert ops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
BTCole:  What does Richard think about your new matchmaking service, Emma?
Emma:  Oh, what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him I always say.
BTCole:  He doesn’t know?
WDarcy:  What doesn’t my cousin know, Emma?  Are you back in the matching making business?  Haven’t you learned by now…
Emma:  Now Will Darcy!  After being so successfully matched how can you say such a thing!  I took my work with YOU quite seriously after all!
WDarcy:  Emma you did NOT find my Elizabeth for me.  You tried for years and I accidentally met her when she wandered into your support group. If it hadn’t been for your poor leadership skills we might not have had so much trouble in our relationship in the first time.
EDarcy:  Now darling, she did help.  Well, so did Richard as far as that goes.  In fact he might have helped more than dear Emma.  But if she finds purpose in being a working woman…
WDarcy:  Not this again!  Haven’t I apologized for putting down your career enough now?
EDarcy:  Yes, my dear.  But you know how I love to tease you.
WDarcy:  You know how much I like to follow your philosophy of remembering the past only as it gives me pleasure.
EDarcy:  And pleasure we do have…
BTCole:  Cool it you two.
EDarcy:  Oh, hello dear author.  How we love you and the adventures you created for us!  I can’t wait to get back to creating more adventures!
Emma:  This is getting out of control.  I am supposed to be interviewing Ms. Cole.  After all, now that I am so wonderfully matched I want to help Ms. Cole find her match as well.
BTCole:  Thanks Emma.  I do not need your help.  I made my own match quite a while ago now–thank you–with no help needed from you.
EDarcy:  Oh, tell us more Barbara.  We would love to know about your own love match, wouldn’t we Will?
WDarcy:  What I really want to know is how your relationship might have inspired this upcoming story?
BTCole:  Well, the first time ‘my Darcy’ asked me out I turned him down flat.  The second time was 3 years later and we met again at a mall.  He followed me around until he convinced me to give him my phone number. I finally did just to get rid of him.
WDarcy:  Was he arrogant?  Did he say something insulting the first time you met?
Emma:  I wish I had been there.  I am sure that I could have made things go smoother.
BTCole:  No, Emma, he didn’t insult me, and I would call him confident, not arrogant.  We both needed to grow up. I was just 21 when I first met him and had no real experience with men.  I went to small North Georgia college, and was a music major, dating men who were not yet ready to come out of the closet.  So, needless to say I had not dated any straight men when I met my future husband.  I didn’t know enough to KNOW that they were not straight at the time.  And I certainly was not ready for a confident man.  Truth be told, I was a bit scared of him when we first met.
EDarcy:  So what happened after you gave him your phone number?
BTCole:  He called several times to ask me out, and I always seemed to have something to do.  Eventually, I finally said yes.  The first time he took me out to a 5 star restaurant and a traveling Broadway play that had come to Atlanta.  The second time to an equally nice restaurant, and on the third date he took me to see Johnny Mathis under the stars at an open amphitheater.  He had a catered dinner brought in.
WDarcy:  Yes, yes, sounds very much like something that I would do…  So he confessed his love for you that night and you lived happily ever after?
BTCole:  Oh no!  Well, he did confess his love for me. However, I told him I didn’t think I was even attracted to him.  He was not too happy with that comment, and told me he thought I didn’t know what to do with a heterosexual, which was probably true.  It was a very Hunsfordesque fight!
SILENCE…..
Emma:  Like I said, I should have been there…
EDarcy:  Oh, be quiet, Emma.  I am still ashamed of some of the things I have said in the past…
WDarcy:  Oh, love, there is nothing to be ashamed about now!
Emma:  So what happened?
BTCole:  I called him to help me on my resume a couple of months later to see if he was still real mad and he agreed to help. He was a professional writer and said yes.  I also checked to see if the other guys I had gone out with were really out of the picture and they were. I called him on Valentine’s Day about 6 months after that awful night and told him I was sorry.
EDarcy:  You got married a couple weeks later?
BTCole:  No, but it was only 6 months later!
WDarcy:  So your life experience prepared you to write about Darcy and Elizabeth. I believe that this is your third novel scheduled for release in November?
BTCole:  Yes, it is.
FitzwilliamEbenezerDarcy:  (entering the door) And I would most likely have never found my Elizabeth without the intervention of Ms. Cole and her many ghosts.
Mrs.FEbenezerDarcy:  Oh, my love, you just had to come for me.  I was awaiting you on Oakham Mount, praying for the day you would return to me.
WDarcy:  You look a bit like me, Ebenezer!
FitzwilliamEbenezerDarcy:  All of Ms. Cole’s Darcys look like us.  I tried to get her Fitzwilliam Darcy from White Lies to come along with me tonight as well, but he and his Elizabeth just had another baby and wanted to stay at Pemberley!
You should know that we ALL look like Colin Firth to her!  Must be confusing to have so many varieties of Darcy in your mind, and they are all twins!
EVERYONE LAUGHS!
Emma:  So Ms. Cole, if I could give you an opportunity to meet Mr. Firth would you welcome it?  Would your husband mind?
BTCole:  Oh, we have an agreement!  If I ever get a chance for a night with Colin he will understand, and if he ever gets a chance to be with Kate Beckinsale - he gets the chance!
Mrs.FEbenezerDarcy and EDarcy GASP:  NO!  You wouldn’t!
BTCole:  I think we are both pretty safe at this point and time in our lives!  But I can dream can’t I!  Why do you think I like to write!
Emma:  Kate Beckinsale, hmmm… Another Emma!  Of course!  So your husband has a thing about Emma?
BTCole:  No, I think it was seeing her in leather in some kind of futuristic film.
RichardFitzwilliam:  (walks into the gathering unsuspecting) Emma, darling we are going to be late for dinner if you don’t come along soon!  Wow, you have quite the room full here!
Emma:  Well, let’s ALL go out to dinner!  But let me wrap up here!  Thanks to my reading audience.  And don’t forget, if you haven’t yet met the Darcy or Elizabeth of YOUR dreams I would be VERY happy to help you!  Come visit me at DarcyholicMatch.com.
RichardFitzwillaim:  Good Lord!  She’s back to her old tricks?  Maybe WE are going to have to do an intervention on HER this time!
BTCole:  Or perhaps an intervention on me…
All laugh!

Coming This Fall--Adventures of a Darcyholic

It is a proven fact that when a man or woman become obsessed with an object of desire, particularly when that personification is a fictional character such as one Fitzwilliam Darcy, it may be necessary to surrender and admit defect to intervention, and seek help when simple infatuation becomes an addiction.  In Adventures of a Darcyholic our hero and heroine have a deep need to find some balance in their lives. Is support available to assist them to find a path back to normal?  But then again, if Darcy is the problem do they wish for a cure?

Barbara Tiller Cole, an Atlanta native and author of her third novel, brings to light this Jane Austen inspired laugh-out-loud comedic delight.

Fitzwilliam Ebenezer Darcy
'Pride and Prejudice' meets 'A Christmas Carol' A Jane Austen/Charles Dickens crossover story, 'Fitzwilliam Ebenezer Darcy' takes the best of both classics and spins them into a delightful Holiday treat! F.E. Darcy has fallen into pitiful self-loathing and sorrowful angst-ridden despair; all of this due to his belief that he has lost forever the chance to marry the only woman he has ever loved—Elizabeth Bennet. Seeing her son in such a state, the Ghost of Anne Darcy reaches out to him; informing him that three ghosts would visit him and give him hope. Will these Spirits provide him with the courage to try again to win the esteem of his one true soul mate? Barbara Tiller Cole, an Atlanta native and the writer of the popular book 'White Lies and Other Half Truths', presents this family friendly classic—a delightful combination of the best of her two favorite authors, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. Barbara credits her parents with fostering a love for both of these authors. Each Christmas, Barbara’s father would sit and read Dicken’s classic 'A Christmas Carol' to the family. Her mother consistently challenged her to improve her mind by extensive reading, Jane Austen style. This book is dedicated to the memory of Cliff and Jeanne and the season they loved the best.

Barbara Tiller Cole shines a comedic, sexy light on the characters of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, turning it into a delightful romp. Open the pages and take a look at maiden fears, the consequences of white lies, and the hope for redemption. If Fitzwilliam Darcy were alive today he would say, "If Jane Austen had written a Regency Sex Manual, this would be it!" Elizabeth Bennet would have said, "A fun, light, sexy yarn! What I would give to be taught by Professor Darcy!" Take a delightful journey with your beloved characters as you read this delightful farce!

  1. I love seeing your wedding pictures! Your own Darcy was very patient with you; I'm glad he thought you were worth the wait. And I adore your Emma and Studmuffin! I'm already your Facebook friend, but how do I get to be Studmuffin's FB friend? XD

I am very glad that you liked the pictures! And yes, my Darcy was very patient with me! As for Emma and Studmuffin..LOL. Well, Michael Weatherly is his real name, and he does there are a couple facebook pages, but most likely they are not him. Easiest to find him under NCIS TV series sites online!

  3. Thanks Barbara for sharing your story of how you met your own Mr Darcy. I greatly enjoyed reading the fun interview and how Emma managed to hijack and add in her opinion, so typical. NCIS is one of my favourite TV series and I love the whole team.

Thanks so much! I am glad you enjoyed the interview and my own story thrown in there. Emma in my next book is a FUN character. I think you will enjoy her. And NCIS is my favorite TV show right now. So it was easy to work it that Richard Fitzwilliam was in the Navy and then the NCIS. My husband served a useful purpose while I was writing this. I asked him if there was a Colonel in the Navy and he said no, that he would have to be a Captain! (He is a Vietnam Vet himself :D)..

So glad you enjoyed my story. And yes, I am glad that I realized it in time as well. I gave him SUCH a hard time. Actually he asked me OUT when I first met him, and I said no because I was dating someone else in grad school (who also ended up to be gay. But remember I was a music major).

Dick's 'likes' have changed over the year. And I had a couple celebrity crushes before Colin. I was actually kind of shocked when I asked him who he would want to have a chance with and he said Kate. When I told him she had played in an Austen film, he rolled his eyes.. ;)

    2. I had another thought I thought I would share with you Ceri. When I write Elizabeth I really like to think that she is ME. But honestly, I have always thought that Kate Beckinsale would make a great Elizabeth. As I wrote another post this week (seen earlier on the site here) about Adventures of a Darcyholic I was asked about casting my upcoming book. But I didn't think till RIGHT NOW that I could have chose her for Elizabeth. But perhaps from about ?5 years ago..

    3. I read P&P before I saw a film version of it and I always imagined Elizabeth looking similar to Keeley Hawes, who is coincidentally married to Darcy from the 2005 film, but I can see how Kate Beckinsale would work! The Darcy I imagined when I read the book I've not seen yet, but of course he was gorgeous, because if you're going to imagine something you might as well make it worth your while!

The version of Emma with Kate in is my favourite version of Emma, she's wonderful as Emma, and I love Mark Strong as Mr Knightley.

Also loved your interview. That was fun! I have to agree with you, all of the Fitzwilliam Darcy's that I read about look like Colin Firth, too! I think he will forever be my 'Mr. Darcy'! I have no objections to that either! :)

Thanks again for sharing your post.
